The legendary Scottish actor scores ‘nul points’ in James Bond impression contest.

Sean Connery suffered a crushing defeat yesterday – in a competition to find Britain’s best Sean Connery impersonator.

Using a false name, he entered the charity radio phone-in, in which real James Bond actors competed anonymously against members of the public.

Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig and George Lazenby all comfortably won their respective rounds, and went through to the sudden death final.

But Connery came last in his heat, in which Derek Mulgyre (a welder from Glasgow) beat off stiff competition from six other contestants.

Speaking on his client’s behalf, Connery’s lawyer read a prepared statement.

‘We are considering our options after this unfortunate incident’ he said.  ‘We are already in discussions with BT, as the quality of the telephone line seems to have been rather poor.  If so, this would have had an obvious impact on my client’s performance, and may warrant a Judicial Review’.

The winner of the overall competition was Roger Moore, who scored a landslide victory with his rendition of The Trammps’ ‘Disco Inferno’.
