‘It was the last place we thought to look’ say colleagues.
Dr Ramirez can barely contain her delight when asked by the programme’s Director to ‘walk around a bit more’
Dr Janina Ramirez has established herself as one of Britain’s most popular – and distinctive – TV historians. But her presenting style does sometimes cause problems….
‘Last night’s BBC4 documentary on Julian of Norwich was classic Ramirez’ enthused local GP and amateur historian Charles Thornbury.
‘We saw Janina perform many of her trademark moves:
..and all with that ‘Gotho-Swagger’ that she’s made her own. Result‘.
‘On average, Janina walks about 200 miles during the making of each documentary’, said a BBC source. ‘She has a daily target, and if she falls short she buys the crew a pizza – while she walks around the nearest derelict castle a few dozen times.
‘She has a custom-made pedometer – in the shape of the Alfred Jewel’.
‘Yesterday’s scare was over almost as soon as it began. People in Oxford – where Ramirez is affectionately known as ‘The Black Flash’ – noticed that they hadn’t seen her clip-clopping down any picturesque side-streets for a couple of hours. They informed the University authorities – but then she turned up in her office, catching up on some research about the history of kinky boots in post-renaissance Luton’.
‘I was so relieved’ said Dr Thornbury – who admitted that he “didn’t have the foggiest” about the subject of last night’s hour-long programme.
‘Some woman, wasn’t it..?’
